One of the great writers of our time said our entire life is spent trying to answer the question, “Where is my bed?” He meant that we are all trying to find a place where we can be safe, where we can relax – a place to start.
At the Most Excellent Way Learning Life Centers, we understand the need for unique, gender-specific services that truly address prison re-entry issues for women. Women are often victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence and low self-esteem before they become victimizers. This often leads to self-medication with drugs and a life of child abuse, crime, prostitution, homelessness and prison.
Our unique combination of programming and dynamic, credentialed professionals, addresses these pre-existing, gender-specific issues. Integrating pre-discharge and post-discharge support services, our supportive housing services focus on crucial needs: permanent housing, Family reunification, recovery support, mental health and spiritual counseling, vocation training, education and self sufficiency.
The keys to successful community re-entry include:
Without these essential services, the recidivism rate will continue to rise. Children will be separated from their mothers through out-of-home placements, lost parental rights, family-court decisions and juvenile delinquency. Faith-based housing is made possible for women re-entering the community, as is permanent housing for women of The Most Excellent Way and helping women reunite with their children.
We measure our success by those parents who establish stability and permanency as productive individuals and don’t return to drugs or jail.
